June 15 Nous partons en Vacances. Going on holidays!Rapidement nous partons du 16/06 au 20/07, France & Grece au programme. Occasion fabuleuse de revoir la famille, s'amuser avec les enfants et faire un peu de sports. Lorsque nous etions partis avec Luc au meme age, il avait muri exponentiellement, nous nous rejouissons deja de voir comment Anaïs va digerer tous ces nouveaux sons, visions et parfums.
Quickly, we are away from the 16th of June to the 20th of July, France & Greece. Fantastic opportunity to see my family and Viv's in Greece. play with the kids and do a little bit of exercise. When we went with lUc same age, he matured exponentially, looking so much forward to see how Anaïs is going to digest all those new sights, sounds and flavours.
A bientot en photos April 27 2009 April 26 Bapteme d'Anais. Anais ChristeningNous avons baptise Anais ce dimanche. Nous pensions que tout se passerait dans la joie car Anais, mise au courant des festivites, semblait de bonne disposition et etait tres contente de mettre "sa robe de princesse" mais... fidele a elle-meme Anais au moment crucial decida que le rituel ne lui plaisait pas, declarant dans le temple que le pasteur etait "a very stupid man"... Luc se proposa donc pour lui montrer la voie du ciel et fut baptise une seconde fois! Voir son grand-frere sur les fonds baptismaux n'y changea rien et nous avons du attendre la fin du service pour, dans les pleurs et cris, lui imposer l'onction rituelle! Anais, tu es vraiment ma fille et, ne le dis a personne, je t'aime et je suis fier de toi (un peu). Au demeurant et en depit du temps (pluies et tornades) nous avons tous passe une tres bon dimanche truffees de cris d'enfants, rires, d'agapes etc... Plaisir! Merci a Ann et Kathy Grzan, les marraines, qui ont pu voir le fort caractere de notre fille!
We just baptised Anais this weekend. We really thought everything would go dandy! Anais, fully briefed as to what was going to happen and excited at the prospect to put her "princess dress" seemed all ready to go ahead without major drama but... true to herself and right on cue, she decided that this ritual wasn't for her et said in the middle of the service that the clergyman was a "very stupid man"... Luc, big brother as ever, volunteered to show her the way to become Christian and went on to get baptised a second time... To no avail... WE had to wait the end of the service and force Anais to get the saving waters.. Anais, somehow, but do not tell anyone, you are really my daugther I love you and and there was even an ounce of pride soemwhere.. Anyhow in spite of the rainy and windy day, we had a fantastic Sunday, full of children screams, laughters and plenty of food (what did we expect?). Thanks to Kathey and Ann Grzan, the god-mothers, who have had a glimpse into the (strong) character of Anais
           April 26 2009 First Quarter 2009 Premier Trimestre                            Apres une longue absence, je renoue rapidemment avec le Blog et j'ajouterai quelques photos dans les jours prochains a cette entree. Par contre vous trouverez des albums photos recents que j'ai telecharge dans les semaines precedentes.Viv va bien et a commence un cours de Pilates, et cela se voit! Viv pousse pour que je fasse un peu d'exercices.. J'en ai besoin et j'espere que je profiterais de notre sejour en Europe pour commencer!
Luc fait des progres a l'ecole et s'est decouvert une passion pour le piano (plus de pleurs !). Cela a commence pendant mon dernier voyage en Chine lorsqu'il a travaille avec Chris Doyle (ce qui prouve qu'il est toujours preferable de ne pas apprendre avec les parents). Lors du traditionnel dejeuner de Paques chez les Saunders, Luc a emule Sam et nous a tous fait un petit concert avec les morceaux qu'il apprend a l'ecole. Quel courage de jouer pour nous tous et nous etions tres fiers de lui. Il a meme compose et retranscrit sa creation en notes! Son ecriture se discipline et Miss Holland son institutrice est tres satisfaite. Il lit tres bien egalement.
Anais va a la creche et semble tres contente d'aller "a l'ecole", elle commence a mieux parler et continue a nous montrer qu'elle a et aura un fort caractere. Pour autant que son frere sera gentil (trop ?) elle saura se faire respecter! Son bapteme est dans quelque jours et je telechargera des photos. Ses marraines sont Kathy et Ann Grzan, une assurance pour Anais de toujours avoir des conseils en style et etre toujours aucourant des derniers tendances technologiques!
Donc tout va plutot bien et nous sommes tous impatients de revoir l"Europe.
After a lazy few months, back to the Blog. I uploaded a few photo albums recently.
Viv is Ok. She started Pilates recently and it shows. She rightly wants me to do some exerciceas well.. I hope to do something during our trip to Europe.. My last hope before I litterally blow out!
Luc's progress at school is incremental and constant. He recently has taken a real liking for the piano. This happened during my last trip to China whislt he was learning with Chris Doyle, which proves that it is always better not to learn something with your parent.. eparticularly when they do not really know what they are doing! Anyhow gone are the tears and here is the joy and Luc recently performed a little concert during Easter, playing the pieces he learns at school which made us very very proud! He even compsoed and transcribed on a music sheet his own song! His writings is improving and Miss Holland, his teacher, seems very happy.
Anais is going to Kinder and seems to Like it a lot. She even has a friend, Harvey! She talks a lot more and most of the time we actually can understand. Unlike Luc (sweet and almost too nice) she will be sweet maybe but tough surely. We are christening Anais this weekend and I will uplaod pics shortly. Her godparents are Ann & Kathy Grzan,. At leat we know that she will have advice on hand on how to be always stylish and in tunes with the newest technology! A good combination.
So we are all pretty good and all very impatient to go to Europe in June/July!

Dejeuner chez Jodie, de 12h a 19h... au soleil et une journee fantastique pour tous, adultes et enfants. Anaïs et Luc finalement assez sages compte tenu des circonstances!! Buche de Noel au chocolat a battu les puddings, mince pies et autres kouranviedes a platte couture.. Luc et moi n'en doutions pas!

L'environnment economique est mauvais et ne s'arrange pas mais la famille va bien avec Luc qui passe une tres bonne annee en Prep et Anaïs qui nous surprend tous les jours un peu plus. Enfin elle parle... quand elle veut!
Ann et Kathy Grzan nous ont fait le plaisir d'accepter d'etre les marraines d'Anaïs.. Avec les 2 soeurs soyons surs qu'Anaïs aura du style et de l'ambition.
Have had little time to take care of the site. I will upload some family pics this week (Anaïs birthday better late than never). Little news meanwhile. The global financial crisis is taking its toll on economic climate and I cannot see it getting better for at least half a year but the family is good, Zoe (Chris & Jodie's) is a real treat, Luc had a good year in Prep and Anaïs is becoming a real person, now finally talking at least when she feels it is absolutely necessary.
Ann & Kathy Grzan accepted to be Anaïs' godmothers. What a package! With the sisters we all know she will have a sense of style and ambition.

Anaïs a 2 ans et nous venons de fêter son anniversaire. Anaïs, tu es adorable, coquine et pleine de vie. Tu ne parles pas encore mais tu comprends tout (français et anglais) et pendant nos vacances en Europe, tu nous as montre à quel point tu avais grandit et mûrit. Cet anniversaire (chante maintes fois par tout le monde) est le premier dont tu es consciente. Passant de ta voiture Barbie, au mini-piano, a la cuisinière (6 heures de montage par Papa) offerte par Sylvia, tu sembles heureuse que ces cadeaux soient les tiens. Bon anniversaire Anaïs de Papa, Maman, Luc et le reste de ta famille en France et a Melbourne. JTM.

Anaïs is two and we just celebrated her birthday. Anaïs, you are cute, full of life and able to charm anyone from your grandparents to your parents alike. You do not speak yet, by choice is my guess more than by lack of ability, but you understand everything (French and English) and during our recent holidays in Europe, you showed us how much you have grown and matured. Your second birthday (sung many a times at Papou’s) is the first you are really conscious of. With the Barbie pink car, the small piano, Sylvia’s kitchen (took 6 hours for Dad to put it together), you seem happy that those presents are yours “Mine, Mine, Mine”.Happy birthday Anaïs from Papa, Maman, Luc and all your extended family in France and in Melbourne. Nous venons de rentrer de France. Deux grosses semaines de relaxation, sans drames dont nous revenons tous (cette fois) reposes. La leçon, par rapport à l'an dernier, en faire moins et autant que faire se peut, se restreindre à une escale.
Nous avons passe presque 15 jours a Cannes, ou nous avons vu mes parents ( mon père en bonne santé, ma mère me paraissant un peu fatiguée), et Denis et ses enfants. Plaisir de tous les revoir, joie d'être le témoin des interactions entre cousins, grands-parents et Anaïs/Luc. Voyant Luc jouant sur la plage et parlant français, écoutant Anaïs essayant d'articuler "chocolat et grand-mère" ou prenant son grand-père par la main afin qu'il lui offre un tour de manège, la raison de notre retour annuel en France est évidente. Nos enfants découvrent et s'ancrent dans leur autre famille et culture et ces voyages sont un luxe "indispensable", tant que nous pourrons nous l'offrir, pour les compléter. A l'aller nous ne sommes arrêtes à HK, la foule a un peu effraye les enfants, mais cela nous aura permis de couper le voyage et j'espère que la vue de HK la nuit restera empreinte dans la mémoire de Luc. Anaïs a presque détruit un restaurant mais je dois admettre que cela restera le seul moment de ce voyage ou elle n'aura pas ete parfaite. Luc a fait des progrès en natation et est désormais le fier détenteur d'un brevet de 10m de brasse. Son français, tant avec ses cousins, qu'avec Julie, fille de Sylvie, est excellent. Anaïs parle tous les jours un peu plus, comprend tout ce que nous lui disons en français et adore la plage. Au retour nous nous sommes arrêtes à Paris pendant un jour et demi. Quelle ville!! Nous avons marche avec Luc de la Tour Effel (2 étages négocies à pieds!!) a St Germain, Champs-Élysées, Louvre et retour au Marais.. De onze a 20 heures, pas mal a 5 ans et demi!! Nous reviendrons à Paris pour quelques jours de plus. En résume, tres bonnes vacances familiales... Enfin!! Fier que nous y soyons arrives ;=)
Just came back from France. 2 big weeks of stress free, no drama holidays from which we all (this time) come back relaxed and happy! Lesson to be learned To Do More Do Less... We spent 15 days or so in Cannes where we saw my parents (Dad in good health, Mum looking tired), Denis, Julien and Olivia. So good to see them all and witness this interactions between, cousins, uncle, grandparents & Luc/Anais. This is what it is all about and this year was bliss with all involved having time and the kids being the right age. I hope we will have a couple holidays like that. To see Luc playing and speaking perfect French on the beach and with his family, to hear Anais trying to articulate 'chocolat and grand-mere" or taking her grand father by the hand to score another ride on the merry go round was priceless and makes it clear, that, as long as we can afford this luxury, going back yearly to France is a "necessity". Our children are discovering the world out there and growing up with a sense of their double culture and roots. Great building blocks for them, and necessary for them to fit in our lives. On the way in we stopped in HK, to make the trip easier. Though both kids were a bit taken aback by the Asian crowds, I hope that the view of HK by night will stay with Luc, as it is truly magnificent. Anais almost destroyed a restaurant on the first night, but we have to admit that for the rest of the trip, she was perfect... She is growing up as well and this made our trip all the more enjoyable. Luc's swimming improved and he is now the proud owner of a 10m-breaststroke certificate (in true French manner he wanted a medal..). His French, whether conversing with his cousins, or with Julie, his friend on the beach, is excellent. Anais speaks a little more everyday, understand French when spoken to and simply adored the beach and the sea. On the way back we stopped in Paris for a day and a half. What a truly magnificent city. We loved it! We walked from 11am to 8pm with Luc, covering the Eiffel tower, St-Germain, les Champs-Elysees, The Tuileries, The Louvre Pyramide back to the Marais... This all on foot and with no complaints from the little one.. Very proud of him at five and a half. Next time we will spend a few more days in Paris. Summary: great relaxing family holidays.. We finally did it!!!

May 20 Denis & Olivia in Melbourne, Easter & Mother's DayVisit of Olivia (my niece) who came to stay with her mother in Melbourne. Luc & Anaïs were thrilled and it gave us an insight of waht leaving with a pre-teenager will be. Her english is very good and they all got along very well. Denis came down from Hong Kong, always good to see him here and we may see Julien in Australia in July, great news for us and looking forward to have him with us.
First Easter Egg Hunt at Nick & Val for Anaïs, who quickly got to the eating part of the hunt. Still not articulating many words but she does say "No" and understand everything in both french and english. Getting very cute and still willful..
Mother's day was spent at Chris & Jodie's, with Jodie still have a dream pregnancy (only 3 months to go). Chris had prepared a bowling alley (see pics) and we had a glorious day. It seems we hit the sweet spots with Viv's presents (portable tivoli radio and neck holder from the kids). For once!!!
Work harder at the present time.
Got older last week.

March 17 Back from New Caledonia. De retour de NoumeaCa y est, nous sommes revenus de Noumea hier soir. Vacances reposantes pour moi mais pas si sur pour Viv. Courir apres Anaïs, essayer de la faire manger sans creer une zone de securite de 2 metre de rayon autour de nous.. Pas facile, trouver un restaurant adequat et dans lequel nous pouvons manger quelque chose de sain, tres difficile.. Mais comme toujours un lagon magnifique, des locaux (Canaques, Wallisien, Futumiens) tres gentils avec les enfants. Par contre les laldoches et autres difficiles et mecontents.
Nous aimons y aller et nous y reviendrons mais quant a le conseiller, pas sur.
We are back. I feel rested but I am not so sure Viv would completely share my statement. Though Anaïs is getting so social and funny, she is still a toodler who wnats to do whatever her brother does and gets bored.. Result we had to secure a "safety zone" around our table at breakfirst and dinner to avoid projectiles reaching other dinners. Eventually we settled for less and less but Viv got very frustrated. Understanbly so. Yet so much fun to see the kids play and we did get some rest and R&R.
We will come back to NC for a short holiday but not sure we would advise anyone to go unless as a pure family holiday outing.

New Caledonia Part II. Sun is out! Il fait Soleil!!!Finally sunny days!!!
New Caledonia Part 1Apres quelques jours de pluies, finalement nous apercevons le soleil.. Rien n'a change depuis notre derniere visite. Hotel.plage parfait pour les enfants et une fois la pluie passee nous nous reposons.
Anais tres coquine et Luc s'amuse a plein temps dans la piscine. Si ce n'etait le cout de TOUT, ce serait la destination ideale pour des vacances en famille.

February 25 Olivia en AustralieOlivia, qui restera a Melbourne pour 2 mois, a passe vendredi et samedi chez nous. Elle est devenue (presque) une jeune fille (pre-ado c'est sur). Luc et Anaïs ont joue avec elle. Vendredi soir passe a se "faire les ongles" avec Viv et Samedi a faire les boutiques... Definitivement plus une petite fille!
Tout c'est bien passe, Olivia nous a ecrase au "memory game". Par contre, au monopoly enfants, Luc etait bien en tete et (bless him!) a pris sur lui de preter (donner) de l'argent a Olivia afin qu'elle reste dans la partie..
Nous allons essayer de la revoir apres notre retour de Nouvelle-Caledonie et avant l'arrivee de Denis, debut avril.
My niece, Olivia, came for a sleep over over the week-end. Gone is the little girl and welcome the pre-teen! Lots of girly time with Viv, snipets of things to come with Anaïs...! Luc loved it and I cannot believe how good his french is. We will see Olivia again after our return from NC. February 21 Colour CoordinationHad dinner with Ann, Kathy & David. We all turned up in our brightest pink & orange! Community of Spirits or Fshion Faux-Pas? You will the judge!
February 15 Petit Dej' avec (Dr.) Pascal BourgeatApres 25 ans, je revois un ami avec lequel j'ai fait mes etudes, Pascal Bourgeat. Il vit en Australie a Sydney, marie, heureux avec deux enfants. Nous semblons suivre des parcours similaires. L'assaut du temps n'a pas ete cruel pour lui et (il dit question de metabolisme) Lui n'a pas pris un gramme! Du jeune homme dont je me rappelai, il est devenu un homme interessant et equilibre. Grand plaisir de le revoir et j'espere que nous aurons l'occasion dans le futur proche de batir sur ce petit dej'.

Met up with a grad school friend of mine. 25 years on at least! Nice to see the man who evolved from the student he was. He is content and happy of his life, which in some way seems parallel to mine. Hope to have a dinner with him very soon.
